Our speakers:

Dr. Shafeena Premji, MD, CCFP, MHA, BSc, NCMP

Dr. Premji is a dedicated women’s health advocate and a menopause specialist in Calgary. She is a family physician with a fellowship designation with the Canadian College of Family Physicians and in women’s health. She has held a Menopause Society Certification since 2015. She is the founder and medical director of three medical clinics in Calgary – Mahogany Medical Clinic, The Village Medical Clinic, and her most recent venture – “Milestone: Menopause Centre of Southern Alberta”, which launched in March of 2024. Dr. Premji serves on the board of directors of the Canadian Menopause Society and the medical advisory board of the Menopause Foundation of Canada. She has made media appearances advocating and enlightening menopausal women across the country on CBC The National, CBC Radio, The Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail, and Chatelaine magazine.


Dr. Cindy Barha, PhD

Dr. Barha is an assistant professor of neuroscience at the University of Calgary in the Faculty of Kinesiology and a Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in Neuroscience, Brain Health and Exercise. She was recently named the first Women’s Brain Health Initiative Future Leader in Canadian Brain Research. Her translational research program utilizes both human and rodent studies to better understand why females are at a greater risk for developing dementia by focusing on menopause and the role of pregnancy history in brain aging. She also studies how exercise can be personalized and tailored to promote and protect brain health in midlife and older age.


Dr. Jennifer Reed, PhD

Dr. Reed is the program chair of Cardiac Rehabilitation at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute as well as a scientist and director of the Exercise Physiology and Cardiovascular Health Lab. She is an associate professor in the School of Epidemiology and Public Health in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa, adjunct professor in the School of Human Kinetics in the Faculty of Health Sciences, and a registered kinesiologist with the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario. Her research examines the role of exercise and physical activity in preventing and managing cardiovascular disease, with a particular interest in women’s heart health. Her program focuses on the application of exercise in the prevention and management of atrial fibrillation; developing novel exercise training strategies for women with heart disease; and re-examining practical approaches to monitoring and prescribing exercise training in clinical populations.
