Old New Year's with DIVKA & Nizo's Balkan Brass Band

Celebrate Orthodox New Year with an unforgettable night of myth, magic and brass!

The evening starts with traditional Ukrainian Koliada - as dynamic duo DIVKA guides you through an otherworldly soundscape with haunting harmonies. Together, they seamlessly blend deep-rooted folk traditions with contemporary melodies as generations of femme power collide.

To kick the celebration up a notch, as we welcome Old New Year’s Eve, Nizo Alimov brings the epic energy of his Balkan Brass Band!

About the Artists:

DIVKA is a duo comprised of bandurist (esoteric Ukrainian harp) Alina Kuzma, and violist (not a violin) Zoë Ëoz.

They perform primarily Eastern European folk songs about badass women in all their glory.

As a sonic rebel reckoning, DIVKA's music is charged with mythology, traditional village singing, and generations of femme power, mystic whimsy, and a dash of vengeance.

Trumpet virtuoso Nizo Alimov is a master of Balkan and Romani music, born and raised in Štip, Macedonia. He brings a wealth of experience and the true essence of Macedonian Brass and Turkish Romani styles. He moved to Toronto after years of performing and touring with Koçani Orkestar - the internationally-acclaimed Macedonian Roma Brass band. He's both an accomplished multi-instrumentalist and an enthusiastic and generous teacher of the traditions he was raised in.
