This FREE workshop will provide pre-emerging independent producers and content creators from traditionally underrepresented groups in the media industry (Indigenous, Black, people of colour, people with disabilities, 2SLGBTQI+, and women) with practical information about the business and financing side of content creation.

Session #1 - Business Building Blocks

What basics do you need to know and think about to produce a piece of content? Industry Reps will share their knowledge and insights.

This is a moderated 60 minute panel session followed by a 30 minute Q&A

Panelists: Lisa Broadfoot (CMPA); Janine Steele (CMF); Scott White (CAVCO); Lisa Clarkson (CBC) and moderated by Marsha Newbery (Thunderbird Entertainment & Producing for the Planet)

Session #2: Fictional Case Study - An Interactive Session

A Fictional Digital Short Documentary Case Study will be shared for all participants to work through providing some practical hands-on experience. (30 mins)

Exercise 1: Your documentary idea has been picked up for development....what do you do next? (30 mins)

Exercise 2: You've been greenlit for production.... now what? (30 mins)

Exercise 3: How to finance your project. (30 mins)

This is roundtable work to be done with your table mates and guided by Industry Reps. This is a 90-minute session with a 30-minute initial panel.

Session 3: Creating Digital Content on YouTube

From conception to the finished project - we will discuss experiences and business realities facing producers as they bring their projects to life.

This will be a 45-minute panel with 15 minutes for Q&A. Audience questions will be supplied and answered live.

Session #4: The State of Children's Programming in Canada

Children are more connected with content today than ever before, whether they are on their iPads, watching T.V., or on their parent's phones. We will examine the state of children's programming here in Canada. We will cover how to break into the market and tips and tools to make you and your content stand out.

This will be a 30 minute panel followed by a 15 minute Q&A.
