This course is delivered in an online format via Zoom.
The OpenShift 101 course is typically structured as follows:
- Workshop Session Wednesday 9am-4pm week 1 (the date scheduled in Eventbrite)
- Lab kick-off Thursday 1-3pm week 1
- Lab check-in Thursday 1-3pm week 2
- Lab wrap-up Thursday 1-3pm week 3
In addition these sessions, you will need to allow time for working through the self-paced lab exercises over the two week course period. Please allow ~10 hours of additional working time when planning your time over the course period.
You will be sent Outlook calendar invites with Zoom links confirming your sessions times ahead of your training.
This course is for BC Government staff and contractors only. Those who are part of a team in the Exchange Lab will have priority in taking this course.
The course is primarily focused on developers/devops specialists who are or will be building applications for BC Government on OpenShift. The content of this course is technical and assumes some technical knowledge . I f you're in a non-technical role and would like to attend, please feel free to just join for the workshop session if you prefer. The workshop builds in complexity throughout.
The workshop session describes concepts needed for working with OpenShift in the BC Government.
The lab consists of a series of practical OpenShift exercises. These exercises are completed in a self-paced manner. The lab kick-off, check-in and wrap-up sessions provide an opportunity to get set up for success in these exercises, and to ask any questions on the concepts covered in the course.
Learning Objectives:
• Learn the basics of OpenShift, containers and how it is run and managed in BC Government
• Understand how to get onboarded to the platform, including who the people are that are involved during the steps of this process.
• Discover techniques to troubleshoot common issues with building and deploying apps to the platform.
Come Prepared! Ensure that:
• You have Zoom installed and updated
• If you're using Windows, please install WSL prior to the course. Mac OS X users don't need to do this.
Content:
Will be using a Mural Board as a collaboration and presentation tool during the workshop. Links to the course materials can be found here.

Prerequisites for the lab exercises:
- You need a BCGov IDIR account to complete this training. If you're a contractor without an IDIR account, please contact your supervisor to request this well in advance of the training.
- If you are working in Windows, install WSL and then install related dependencies in WSL
- Install ‘git’ and add it to your PATH
- Create a GitHub.com account and set up 2 factor authentication. This will be needed for access to OpenShift.
