Operation Calvados Documentary Premiere

Join us for a reception, premiere screening, and panel discussion in tribute to the Regina Rifles and their role in the Second World War.

Eighty years ago, on 6 June 1944, the Regina Rifles landed on the beaches of Normandy as part of the largest amphibious invasion in military history. To commemorate the sacrifices of these citizen-soldiers from Saskatchewan, the Royal Regina Rifles Trust raised funds to place a statue in Normandy on 5 June 2024 and bring 15 current-serving members of the regiment overseas to participate in a Tour of Honour.

The premiere of the documentary Operation Calvados offers a detailed look at the creation and significance of the Royal Regina Rifles statue. The film chronicles the statue's journey from conception to installation overseas, capturing the efforts and craftsmanship involved in its making. It also explores broader themes of remembrance, highlighting why we continue to honour the memory of those who served even eighty years later.

Through this documentary, viewers gain insight into the historical and emotional impact of what the Regina Rifles accomplished on D-Day and to Victory, marking the end of the Second World War.

The premiere will be followed by a panel discussion on the DDay Landings, the Battle of Normandy, and the Royal Regina Rifles' part in the events of 1944 - 45.
