About this event

The W̱SÁNEĆ Leadership Council kicked off an 18-month community engagement process in December 2020 with the W̱SÁNEĆ celebration of Culture event. At that event, we had the pleasure to showcase the talents of W̱SÁNEĆ community members. February 18, 2021 from We are now hosting our first in-depth community engagement session with W̱SÁNEĆ people to focus on our shared history as W̱SÁNEĆ people. As we all know, our history has been told and written about us in various non-indigenous books and documents and our oral history was disregarded in much of this. Participants will be guided through a facilitated discussion to brainstorm we can share our history in a way we want it to be told. Who are we as W̱SÁNEĆ people and what are the important pieces of history that can be included in the front of our W̱SÁNEĆ marine and land use plan? What challenges have we overcome and how can we build upon our strengths to develop a future that provides for future generations? important to think about this as we work towards establishing a unified vision for the W̱SÁNEĆ marine and land use plan.

Elder guests will include John Elliott, Linda Elliott, Belinda Claxton, Lou Claxton, and Eric Pelkey.

We invite all W̱SÁNEĆ community members to join us virtually via zoom and be ready to participate and provide your input. Please feel free to visit out webpage and the Blackfish newsletter to get up to date on the draft W̱SÁNEĆ Marine and Land Use Plan Framework at www.wsanec.com.
