About this event
- Event lasts 1 hour 30 minutes
Presented by Assiniboine College and the Social ABCs
The Social ABCs is an evidence-based, caregiver-mediated early intervention program designed for toddlers with emerging autism or social-communication challenges. Developed by Dr. Jessica Brian and Dr. Susan Bryson, this Canadian program is now offered through various child development centers and hospitals across Canada and internationally.
Join Dr. Brian and her team in a special 2-part workshop tailored specifically to early childhood educators and child development professionals:
Part 1 (Oct 23, 2024) – Early Signs and Early Conversations
Dr. Brian will present what is known about the earliest signs of autism and how to communicate these concerns with families. This workshop aims to increase understanding about development in toddlers who have confirmed or suspected autism and provide guidance around how to communicate your observations.
Part 2 (Nov 20, 2024) – How to support children with emerging autism and their families
In this workshop, Dr. Brian and team will present the Social ABCs positive coaching framework. This framework will teach how early childhood professionals can use it to support children. We will present practical approaches for having conversations with caregivers about these strategies with a focus on psychosocial support and partnership with families.
This workshop is generously supported by the Kuik Family via the Kids Brain Health Foundation, with support from Assiniboine College and Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital. It is intended for current students, past graduates, and early childhood professionals local to Manitoba.
