The introduction to pattern drafting class will greatly complement your sewing knowledge. By understanding the fundamental principles of 2d pattern drafting, you will be able to alter any commercial pattern and create clothes that fits perfectly !


Description: You will create a pattern block of a top ( also called a sloper) to your measurement . You will then gain the skills to understand how to transform your block to create a custom design ! You will leave the course with a perfectly fitting Top and the ability to draft your own choice of top pattern variations at home.


Knowledge you will gain:

  • Proper body measurement
  • Basic pattern Drafting principles and concepts
  • Design your own personal top and create a flat sketch of it to plan better for drafting
  • Pattern transformation ( pivoting a dart, how to add seam allowances, creating a body style through manipulating the block, neckline and armhole drafting )
  • How to write all the instructions on your pattern correctly by adding grainline, seam allowances and notches to your pattern pieces


Course program:

  • Taking your personal measurements and drafting your basic block
  • Sewing and fitting of the top block toile ( test )
  • Adjustment of the basic block shape and final pattern block realization
  • Design and flat sketching a personalized top in order to plan the drafting
  • Realization of a pattern of a personal top
  • Realization of the final personalized top

A bout the instructor:

Cecile Raizonville graduated from Felicidad Duce Fashion institute ( now LCI ) in Barcelona in 2010.

She founded with two collaborators the Brand Matière Noire in 2013 which gained recognition in the Canadian fashion scene.

She moved to British Columbia in 2016 and has since been teaching garment making classes at various location, helping others connect to custom garment making while enjoying the process .

S he also collaborates with local brands helping them design and develop their lines.

Sewing Level: Beginner to Intermediate

Note : am offering an introduction to sewing class as well if you would like to get more familiar with a sewing machine prior to the class, but this is not mandatory , please contact me ( see email / phone below ) for more information.

Includes: 15 hours of instruction (2 sessions), all drafting instructions handout , Sewing machines and tools use during the class .

Cécile Raizonville collaborate creatively with local textile and fashion brands. She graduated from LCI Fashion design program in Barcelona. She founded the womenswear Brand Matière Noire with two collaborators in Montréal which gained recognition at a national level. She moved to British Columbia in 2016 and has worked in the garment manufacturing industry since then. After offering consulting services for various brand in Vancouver, she officially launched MAE , a studio aiming at to bringing her experience and creativity at the service of the growth of a culture of sustainability in Fashion.
