By volunteering with us, you'll not only be part of providing nutritious meals to anyone who needs it, but also uplifting people's day and forming understanding between often seperated demographics. Come volunteer with us to experience how we're different.
We look forward to seeing you at this month's Peace Meal lunch at the Downtown Eastside Neighbourhood House (573 E Hasting Street). Please be aware that DTES NH will be moving into a temporary space in the future to accomodate construction. The temporary space is nearby. If the move happens before this meal you will be notified of the location details in advance.
Register below to secure the volunteer shift of your choice. There are 3 shift options. Please select the one that suits you best.
Shift Options:
1. Early Shift: 10:00 am-12:00 pm (food prep and hall setup)
2. Late Shift: 11:45 am-2:30 pm (serving and cleanup) Serving begins at 12, please arrive between 11:45am and 11:50am for handover from the early shift.
3. Full Shift: 10:00 am-2:30 pm (select tickets for both shifts. 4.5 hours in total.)
Sign up is on a first-come-first-served basis. If the shift you prefer is showing as "Sold Out," that means we have enough volunteers for that time-slot. You can join the waitlist and get notified first-hand if/when there's a cancellationn.
Wondering what time to come? Come at the time indicated for the ticket(s) you chose. If you add the event to your calendar using Eventbrite then it will add an event for the whole event (10-2:30), but don't worry we are only expecting you for your selected shift(s).
If you signed up, but can’t make it, please cancel your tickets so others can join. Please cancel your ticket if you are unwell and give the spot to someone else, we'll look forward to seeing you the next time.
Want to help us organize the meals and gain leadership experience? Please talk to us about joining our steering committee. We really need more person power on the organizing side at this time. Thank you.
Our costs have really gone up. Different than ever before, we've had to start paying to use a space. On top of that, our cost of food had already gone up so much that each meal costs the same as it did before COVID when we had a space which allowed us to serve twice as many people and host three times as many volunteers. To keep going through this time until we have a larger free space again, more than ever we'd appreciate your donations. You can find out about how to donate on our website.
