About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

This class is Step 1 of how to learn the wheel at Makers. It happens over 3 Thursday evenings and is designed for people looking to begin their journey throwing pottery on the wheel . Over the three days you will be introduced to the basic techniques of throwing clay and be able to keep up to 4 pieces. You can also take this class in the one day format.

Here at Makers we have designed a program where class size is kept small (3 people) to allow for focused learning and one that allows you to learn and advance at your own pace.

Upon completion of this class sign up for Step 2 of how to learn the wheel at Makers: Focus on Fundamentals. In order for your journey to be effective it is recommended you sign up for Focus on Fundamentals within 2 weeks of completing this class.

Upon completion of Steps 1 and 2 you can then return as a member and access our wheels and practice clay at no additional charge until you are ready to purchase your own clay and learn the art of glazing. Be prepared to spend up to 6 months practicing before keeping any pieces. It takes time to develop the techniques needed to be successful at throwing small pieces and keeping them to glaze.

We are both a teaching studio and a community studio for members to use.

Return in three weeks to pick up your 4 kiln fired pieces of pottery.

All supplies are included. Please wear comfortable clothing you don't mind getting dirty, tie back any long hair and trim nails.
