Urban Legends & Cryptids (Grade K/1)

From Bigfoot to the Loch Ness Monster, this camp dives into legendary creatures and the science behind their myths. Campers will explore how hoaxes are created, analyzing famous cryptid sightings and even attempting to recreate their own. They’ll learn about buoyancy while investigating the Loch Ness Monster, experiment with aerodynamics by designing their own UFO gliders, and examine proportions and scale when estimating Bigfoot’s height. The camp also encourages creativity as students develop their own mythical creatures, crafting stories and legends to bring them to life. By blending science with storytelling, campers will uncover how urban legends are made and why they endure.

Ghostbusting (Grade 2/3)

Is there science behind ghost stories? This camp explores the natural phenomena that might explain spooky experiences, from eerie illusions to static electricity. Campers will learn about skeletal anatomy while investigating the phrase “skeletons in the closet,” experiment with floating teabags and dancing ghosts, and explore how temperature and air currents can create mysterious effects. The camp also delves into the science of perception, including body transfer illusions and the role of the brain in interpreting ghostly sensations. While there may not be real ghosts to bust, students will walk away with a better understanding of the science behind supernatural claims.

Mythbusting (Grade 4/5/6)

This camp brings the excitement of MythBusters to life as students put popular science myths to the test. Through hands-on experimentation and scientific reasoning, campers will explore whether a penny dropped from the Empire State Building could really be fatal, if pure water actually conducts electricity, and whether pirates used eyepatches to preserve their night vision. They’ll dive into concepts like physics, chemistry, and human physiology while uncovering the truth behind everyday misconceptions. With a mix of surprising discoveries and engaging demonstrations, this camp challenges critical thinking and sparks curiosity about the scientific method.
