SPEAKER BIOS

Dr. Stephen Yip

Medical Oncologist Chair, Southern Alberta GU Tumour Group Clinical Associate Professor Tom Baker Cancer Centre.

Talk Title: "Precision Oncology in Prostate Cancer."

Dr. Yip is a Staff Medical Oncologist at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary, Alberta. He is the Precision Oncology & Experimental Therapeutics (POET) Medical Oncology Lead, the Southern Alberta GU Tumour Group Chair, and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Calgary. He has an academic focus on translational research, PSMA PET/CT imaging and novel radiopharmaceutical drug development in advanced prostate cancer. He completed his medical oncology clinical and translational research genitourinary fellowship, under the supervision of Dr. Kim Chi at BC Cancer. He received his MD at the University of Alberta and trained at the University of British Columbia and the University of Calgary. He has a Masters of Science in Health Research Methodology from McMaster University.


Dr. Joseph Schnurr

Family Physician, BA, MD, MA

Talk Title: “An Integrative Approach to Prostate Cancer.”

Dr. Joseph Schnurr has practiced family and integrative medicine in Saskatchewan for over 35 years. His area of expertise is in Integrative and Functional Medicine, a science-based, personalized medicine that deals with primary prevention and addressing the underlying causes of chronic illness. He obtained his Certification in Functional Medicine in 2016. He received his medical degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1983. He is also trained in medical acupuncture and medical anthropology, receiving his Masters of Anthropology degree from the U of S in 2004. He is co-founder and former Medical Director of the Centre of Integrative Medicine in the College of Medicine at the U of S. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Community Health and Epidemiology in the College of Medicine at the U of S. He spent two years leading the Kelowna branch of InspireHealth, a partially government-funded integrative cancer care centre with several locations in BC. He has given numerous presentations within the College of Medicine at the U of S and throughout Saskatchewan and BC communities in the areas of primary prevention, chronic illness, integrative cancer care, and integrative and environmental medicine. He currently practices Functional Medicine in Saskatoon at the Saskatoon Wellness Centre.
