Rainbow Connections "Volunqueer" Training
Join us for a fun and informative training session at The Atrium! Learn how you can become a Volunqueer and make a difference in your community. This in-person event will cover everything you need to know to get started. Meet like-minded individuals and discover how you can help create Rainbow Connections in your area. Don't miss out on this opportunity to give back and connect with others!
The training will include:
- An introduction to Hosting Space for queer youth, provided by Murphy-Issac Boyse (they/he), a Volunqueer with the St Thomas "Queer Qlub" chapter of Rainbow Connections since 2023. Murphy-Issac bring 10+ years of youth engagement experience, and has dedicated the last 5 years to grassroots 2SLGBTQIA+ advocacy.
- A reflection on social biases tied to gender and sexuality, and how we as Volunqueers can intrupt harm caused by these biases, lead by Dr Amanda Zavitz. Dr. Amanda Zavitz is a Professor of Sociology and Women’s Studies at Fanshawe College and Western University in London, Ontario. Dr. Zavitz is an executive director of the Gender Equality Coalition of Ontario, a not for profit organization that strives to achieve gender justice in our communities. Dr. Zavitz is a keynote public speaker, a feminist, and social justice activist. She is an EDI expert and serves on several boards and committees.
