About this event

Fleming College, in collaboration with Trent University, is thrilled to host the Renewable Energy Hackathon, a part of the Ovin EaRTH Switch program, on Saturday, October 21st, 2023. This exceptional event is tailored for high school students hailing from the Peterborough and Kawartha region.

Event Overview: The Renewable Energy Hackathon is an exciting and educational competition that challenges high school students to design wind turbines capable of generating renewable energy. Participants will receive detailed design requirements, limitations, and a list of materials at the beginning of the challenge. The assessment will encompass three distinct categories:

    • Problem Solving and Design
    • Construction
    • Performance Evaluation

On the competition day, technical instructions will be provided to guide students in planning, building, and testing their turbine designs. The event will take place at Fleming College's Sutherland Campus in room D1129, and all necessary materials will be provided by CAMIIT at Fleming College in collaboration with Trent University.

Key Points to Note:

    • Teams will consist of two students each.
    • Each team may be accompanied by at least one teacher or adult representative, who will not actively engage in the design process.
    • The competition is open to a maximum of 20 teams from educational institutions within the Peterborough and Kawartha Region.
    • Distinctive awards will be granted to the top three teams based on their performance and innovation.
    • Guests are welcome to park in whichever visitor or general lot they desire.

Who Can Participate: This competition is open to all high school students from the Peterborough and Kawartha region. Teams should consist of two members each.

Prior Experience: No prior experience in renewable energy or engineering is required to participate. The event is designed to be an enjoyable and educational experience for all students.

What Students Will Gain: The Renewable Energy Hackathon offers students a unique opportunity to learn about renewable energy, teamwork, and problem-solving in a hands-on setting.
