About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour 30 minutes

Join us at Sackville Hill for an interesting conversation about exercise as we age, incorporating both research and perspectives of active older adults.

We hear a lot about how the older adult population is not active enough, and the impacts that inactivity can have on staying healthy and independent as you age. But these messages don’t suddenly motivate the inactive to become active!

What if we could learn more from folks, including older adults, who live active lifestyles? Why and how they participate, what is important about being active and how they address challenges?

Join Dr. Meridith Griffin in conversation to explore what lessons we can learn from aging athletes including how transitions during this stage of life can impact your routines, and ways you can find and nurture a sustained and meaningful relationship with movement in later life.

Parking and refreshments will be provided. The talk will be followed with an opportunity to try some hands-on exercise, enjoy some snacks, and ask our researchers more about staying sporty as you age.

About the Sage Conversations Series

The McMaster Institute for Research on Aging is hosting a series of community-targeted events that allow people to learn more about what’s happening at the University while leaving lots of space for questions and conversations.

MIRA has selected a mix of its most requested spots to visit on campus and some of McMaster’s leading aging researchers to participate and encourage more open engagement with those that we may not have the pleasure of meeting in the past.
