About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

Cambrian Players presents our second Green Room production of our 75th season – Scenes from an Execution by Howard Baker, directed by Jordan Blaxill.

Our Green Room shows are presented as staged readings, bringing a unique authenticity as our actors take to the stage with scripts in hand. With only three or four rehearsals prior to hitting the stage, these shows deliver a spontaneous experience for both the performers and the audience.

Join us on Saturday, October 19 for Scenes from an Execution:

What price is worth paying to stay true to your artistic vision?

A modern study of the meaning of art and the truth of war, Howard Barker’s Scenes From An Execution has a timeless power and frank authenticity.

Set in sixteenth-century Venice, the free-spirited Galactia is commissioned to paint a vast canvas celebrating the triumphant Battle of Lepanto. In her fierce determination to stay true to herself, she alienates the authorities, her friends, her family, and faces surprising and dangerous consequences.

A fearless and accessible exploration of sexual politics and the ageless tension between personal ambition and moral responsibility, Scenes From An Execution is startlingly insightful, teasingly witty, darkly funny, and ultimately, beautifully poetic.

This highly enjoyable tour de force is a contemporary classic not to be missed.
