Cory Weeds presents the Sharon Minemoto Quartet
Sharon is the leader of a trio, a quartet and a quintet. Her trio and quintet have each released one CD as well as several shows for CBC Radio. Her quartet's recording, “Safe Travels”, took the band on a Canadian tour in February and March of 2018. In August, 2023, the quartet released their second album, “Dark Night, Bright Stars”. In addition to her own ensembles, she has performed with artists such as Cory Weeds, Brad Turner, Jill Townsend, Oliver Gannon, Neil Swainson, Dee Daniels, Denzal Sinclaire, James Danderfer, Laura Crema, Mike Allen, The Vancouver Jazz Orchestra, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and Musica Intima Vocal Ensemble.
Sharon is the recipient of two Canada Council for the Arts grants and one BC Arts Council Grant. Her last grant took her to New York City for 4 months to study with Renee Rosnes and Kenny Werner. Her writing is of a highly melodic style coupled with fresh, innovative harmonic ideas. Minemoto's studies with Renee Rosnes and Kenny Werner have strongly influenced the direction her writing has taken.
In addition to performing, she is a seasoned educator. She has been on faculty in the music department at Vancouver Community College since 2000 and sits on the board of directors for the Fraser MacPherson Jazz Fund.
