Learn more about design, colour, proportion and more in this fun and creative weaving course focused on stripes. Participants will explore stripe design and development through creative exercises that awaken curiosity, creativity, and deepen their understanding of the principles of art and design. Colour’s critical role in successful weaving projects will also be discussed. This class on the rigid heddle loom is ideal for the beginner to experienced weaver who wishes to develop their project planning, design, and colour confidence skills.

About the Instructor: Amanda Rataj is an artist and weaver living and working in Hamilton, Ontario. She studied at the Ontario College of Art and Design University and has developed her contemporary craft practice through research-based projects, artist residencies, and exhibitions. Amanda is a contract lecturer in Toronto Metropolitan University’s Fashion program and has been an educator at the Art Gallery of Ontario for over a decade. Recent exhibitions include Generation at Craft Ontario as part of the Design TO festival (2023), Crosscurrents: Canada In the Making at the Textile Museum of Canada (2018), and Nothing is Newer Than Tradition (Art Gallery of Burlington, 2017). 

ART SUPPLIES: Adult students must supply their own materials based on course outline or purchased from the instructor if indicated.

ATTIRE: Please dress in clothing that reflects the nature of the activity. Your clothing may get messy from the materials and mediums utilized in your class. Also, closed-toe shoes are mandatory.
