Stronger Than You Think: Identifying and Addressing Economic Abuse with the Canadian Centre for Women's Empowerment
Join us for an eye-opening online event where we delve into the topic of economic abuse in the context of the settlement sector. We are inviting the director for The Canadian Centre for Women's Empowerment, Michaela Mayer, to shed light on this often overlooked form of abuse and provide valuable insights on the first Canadian Economic Abuse Screening Tool (EAST).
The Economic Abuse Screening Tool (EAST) has been developed to assist social service providers, particularly shelter staff, in identifying and addressing instances of economic abuse experienced by their clients. EAST equips these providers with the information and skills necessary to assess the scope and nature of economic abuse, and provides them with a range of resources to help victim-survivors access critical economic resources. We will be discussing its application within the context of the settlement sector.
Our webinar will take place virtually, online on Tuesday, July 9th, 2024. 2:00 pm to 4:00 PM.
The zoom link will be provided closer to the event through Eventbrite.

About the Stronger Than You Think Webinar Series
The #Strongerthanyouthink Series aims at providing capacity building workshops for service providers, faith-based groups and employers to be better equipped to respond to disclosures of gender-based violence in the newcomer community. While gender-based violence happens to all communities at a similar rate, we recognize that refugee and immigrant women face particular barriers that make it more difficult for them to get support. It is our aim that this webinar series update the sector on the changing landscape and better equip attendants on how to deal with disclosures of gender-based violence for newcomer communities.
