About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

Let us gather for an evening of practicing gratitude through writing, sharing, and making with fibres. To express care to beings. To land. To water. To ourselves, and our loved ones.

I began this personal practice of writing gratitude letters seven years ago when I was going through peak moments of mental health battles. I've written over 500 letters and the practice has unexpectedly become a necessary aspect of my life. This is the first time I am sharing this personal/ vulnerable practice to my extended community, and I hope to keep learning from this simple act, which has been practiced by many great teachers, and continues to deepen my perception of existence and connection to the beings around me. I look forward to writing and making with you all. Please note that the workshop is being held at Emily Carr's library on Nov 13th (4-6 pm) and 17th (3-5 pm). Please register for one of the two days. There will be materials and light snacks. Feel free to bring your favourite pen.

Parnian Anaa is a multidisciplinary designer, in her last year of majoring in Industrial Design and minoring in Social Practices and Community Engagement at Emily Carr University of Art + Design. Parnian’s passion for equity, social innovation, and community has made her design practice a work of ecological and social justice. She believes that her work serves as an ongoing thread of reflexive research, navigating (slow) design, art, and craft through integrating practice-led engagement with materials, movement, and communities. She is currently working on her grad capstone project, “Care: a series of anti-colonial work”, as she continues to create space for slow design and connection, such as writing gratitude letters and making with raw wool.
