About this event

  • Event lasts 6 hours

In this full day, two-part workshop, we will begin the day learning techniques for creating painted papers using a selection of Japanese papers.

Once dry, we will incorporate them into works of 3-dimensional art using a variety of Paper Engineering techniques. Finished pieces may be used as stand-alone paper sculptures or as pop up greeting cards.

All essential materials and tools will be provided. Participants are asked to bring:

  • a notebook and pen
  • an apron (or dress to get messy)
  • your lunch*

If you have small tools you prefer to bring from home such as scissors, Exacto-style knife, bone folder, please feel free to do so.

*There is a fridge and some small appliances available for you to use.

About Helen McCusker

Helen McCusker is a renowned artist and highly repsected instructor. A graduate of Sheridan’s Illustration Program, Helen has been making art for more than 40 years. Her main focus is on Figurative work – creating Expressionistic drawings and paintings that speak to movement, energy and the deeply personal.

Her work with Paper Engineering, creating Abstract Pop-Up Sculptures incorporates hand-painted papers and collage. Paper engineering is a counterpoint to her drawing and painting,
