The Frozen Deep
Written by Charles Dickens and Wilkie Collins, adapted by the Ensemble
In 1845, Sir John Franklin’s expedition left England aboard the HMS Terror and HMS Erebus in search of the fabled Northwest Passage, a shortcut between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans through the icy Canadian arctic waters.
They were never heard from again.
Only in recent years have archaeological discoveries finally pieced together parts of their harrowing story, and unlocked hints about the crew’s final days aboard their icebound ships. Cold, lost, stuck in the ice with no way forward and no way home, Franklin’s explorers were left with only one imperative: survive…at all costs.
Devised from the Wilkie Collins melodrama The Frozen Deep, this new CYPT adaptation will dive into the icy past to find a solution to a mystery fraught with betrayal, hope, murder and worse. Using songs, true accounts and the wishful thinking of Franklin’s contemporaries, we seek to tell a tale of what may have happened before the infamous expedition vanished on the ice.
Are ye brave enough to descend into…the frozen deep?
