Welcome to Season 7 of the This Black Girl Reads Book Club!!!
Join Us in a Journey of Healing, Growth, and Connection Through Books
Welcome to another transformative season of This Black Girl Reads Book Club, where we reclaim our stories, celebrate Black voices, and create a community of healing and sisterhood through the power of books.
This season, we invite both returning and new members to dive deep into stories that challenge, inspire, and uplift us as Black women. Our Season 7 lineup is a curated selection of thought-provoking reads that explore themes of identity, self-discovery, love, and resilience.
Whether you're here to connect with like-minded women, find solace in the pages of a good book, or engage in deep discussions that spark change, Season 7 promises to be a powerful journey.
What to Expect in Season 7
Season 7 features a diverse collection of books by incredible BIPOC authors. Over the next few months, we’ll read, reflect, and engage in meaningful conversations that will challenge us to think critically and live more fully.
As always, our sessions are designed to be inclusive, safe, and supportive spaces where BIPOC women of all ages and backgrounds can come together, share their stories, and learn from one another. Expect a mix of in-person discussions, online forums, and engaging activities that go beyond the books we read.
December Book of the Month: Behold the Dreamers by Imbolo Mbue
Set against the backdrop of the 2008 financial crisis, the novel follows Jende and Neni Jonga, a young Cameroonian couple living in New York City. Jende lands a job as a chauffeur for Clark Edwards, a high-powered executive at Lehman Brothers. Meanwhile, Neni works tirelessly as a housekeeper for Clark’s wife, Cindy. Their lives seem full of possibility, but as the cracks in the Edwards family’s glamorous façade begin to show, the Jongas face difficult choices that force them to reconcile their dreams with their reality.
⚠️ Trigger Warnings: Immigration struggles, domestic abuse, substance abuse, depression and mental health struggles, classism and racial inequality.
Find the book here.
Our discussion will take place via Google Meet on Friday, December 27 at 7pm Eastern.
