About this event

  • Free venue parking

Do you miss singing in community, just for the joy of it? Free your voice and sing in harmony by ear, in a joyful, inclusive community choir / song circle that I call “SING AGAIN”! It’s all about joy and connection, rather than performance or perfection. We are a diverse range of voices from beginners to experienced harmonizers - every voice belongs.

Join us in the acoustically divine Rotary House, and learn harmony-rich songs from the community singing movement, uplifting pop, sea shanties, call & echo, and world music. Some songs are taught by ear in 3 or 4 parts, and on some songs we’ll let the harmonies happen organically. Tuesday nights are extra special as we're accompanied by Stephen Pilcher of Percussive Elements Drumming, and you are invited to grab a shaker or other rhythm instrument for a song or two.

Enjoy a cup of ginger tea during our short break, and get to know others in the circle!

Check out our song list and more details at www.sylviahumble.ca/sing-again-choir

I offer three weekly circles: two in Nanaimo (Monday afternoons and Tuesday evenings) and one in Parksville (Thursdays at 3:30). Membership is optional; drop-ins welcome, and your first time at Sing Again is free!

Frequently asked questions

Is singing ability or experience required?

No - If you can talk, you can sing. Singing is a human birthright that we are reclaiming as a culture. This is community singing, for pure joy and connection. Less confident singers find their voice and are supported by others. Experienced singers enjoy freeing their voice from the written notes.

Is the venue accessible?

Yes, there is wheelchair accessible parking and a ramp to the upper level where we sing.

Do I need to read sheet music?

No, we don't use notated music; we learn songs by ear in a call-and-response style, and many of the songs are short, repeating layer songs or rounds. Lyrics sheets are provided for a few longer songs. Harmonies are taught in 3 and 4 parts, and on some songs we simply let harmonies happen organically

Nanoose Bay singer-songwriter Sylvia Humble has returned to her passion for singing, after shelving her dream for 20 years to focus on career and family. Sparked by a health crisis, she left her government cubicle, picked up her ukulele, and discovered that her purpose in life is to help others liberate their voice and sing in harmony!

From local markets and art shows to Knox United Church and the Parksville Outdoor Theatre, Sylvia now delights audiences with her pure, heartfelt vocals and ukulele strumming, and is known for getting audiences singing. Her inspirations range from Joni Mitchell to Coco Love Alcorn, and her original songs are uplifting and personal.

In 2021, Sylvia founded the Sing Again community choir, a fun and informal group that welcomes all voices, regardless of talent or experience, to share the joy of singing in harmony by ear and heart, imperfectly. Now part of the Ubuntu Choir Network, her choir has grown to serve Nanaimo, Nanoose Bay, and Parksville. She also leads community singalongs, flash mobs, and more recently, workshops and concerts in collaboration with other singer-songwriters such as Gerry Barnum and Lea Morris. She is thrilled to be presenting Coco Love Alcorn in Victoria on July 4 and in Nanaimo on July 5.
