Understanding Mental Health and Well-being in Later Life (Program Series)

What is depression?
• Depression is a medical illness (just like diabetes or heart disease), and it is more than feeling sad or unhappy.
• Feeling down at times is normal. If you’re feeling down most of the time for more than two weeks, there may be something else going on.

Mental illness in older adults is often stigmatized and overlooked; these presentations support the health literacy of older adults, increasing awareness and knowledge about prevention, treatment and supports.

These presentations were developed by the Provincial System Support Program at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.

The presentations are delivered by Andrew Kcomt, Knowledge Translation & Research Manager at Hope & Me: the Mood Disorders Association of Ontario.
