About this event
- Event lasts 45 minutes
Join us for an engaging demonstration for students on how to create their own stop-motion animation using everyday items! Mountain Fold Studio will showcase some of their animation work, reveal the behind-the-scenes process, and demonstrate how to tell a story frame by frame.
Recommended for Grades K – 6
In partnership with Mountain Fold Studio, led by Michael Kohlweg.
Bio: Michael is a self-taught stop motion animator who carefully crafts charm and delight into every frame. His love for this medium solidified when he realized the hours spent manipulating real-life objects provided a much-needed break from sitting in front of a computer all day.
Michael studied graphic design and advertising at AUArts (formerly ACAD) before teaching himself stop motion. Recognizing the need to add movement to each campaign, he decided to pursue animation & motion design as a freelance artist.
Stop motion brings a unique charm and hand-made quality that's difficult to replicate digitally. Bringing inanimate objects and overlooked materials to life has become Michael's lifestyle, and he's always seeking new ways to tell stories. With the recent boom in AI-generated content, Michael is compelled to create work where we can see the fingerprints of the humans who created it.
