    Walk In The Watershed - Foraging In The Elbow Watershed with the Elbow River Watershed Partnership (ERWP)

    Come join us for a fun and educational evening of exploring in the beautiful Elbow Watershed! Meet us at the Bragg Creek Provincial Park Parking Lot, where we will start our adventure.

    Discover the hidden world of edible plants as you journey through the Elbow River watershed where the landscape serves as a natural pantry brimming with edible treasures. Learn to identify and uncover the secrets of wild strawberries, fireweed, and more that flourish in this environment. Engage with the natural world in a whole new way as you gain a deeper appreciation and acquire knowledge of nature's abundance of edible plants.

    Our knowledgeable guide will lead you on a leisurely walk through the park. This is a great way to connect with nature and learn about the local ecosystem. Don't miss out on this unique experience!

    All ages are welcome. Family friendly.

    YOUR GUIDES

    SIERRA VONGRAD is a current Mount Royal University student studying Health and Physical Education with a major in Ecotourism and Outdoor Leadership. She is passionate about connecting people with the outdoors and passing on her knowledge of the wonders of nature. She is currently working with ERWP as an Environmental Educator, finishing a 160-hour practicum.

    Sierra has her Outdoor Council of Canada (OCC) Field Leader (Hiking) Certification, OCC Field Leader (Winter) Certification, as well as her Wilderness First Responder (80-hour Program) and Intermediate First Aid (Standard First Aid) Certifications.


    FLORA GIESBRECHT is the Executive Director for the Elbow River Watershed Partnership – Flora’s work includes project management, hands-on stewardship projects, water quality monitoring and educational outreach. Her work also includes volunteering with Bragg Creek Trails and as a coach with XC Bragg Creek Ski and Bike Society.

    Flora has her Outdoor Council of Canada (OCC) Field Leader (Hiking) Certification and OCC Field Leader (Winter) Certification.

    What should I bring?

    Please dress in layers and bring a small backpack with water and extra clothing. Weather can change quickly in the areas we will be walking. Bug spray is also recommended. Wear sturdy shoes as we will be walking along uneven terrain.
