We'll hear from our host, Martha Williams, owner of Pedal Works Cafe & Studios as she shares with us how she has created a dynamic community hub for Kingston area residents.

Our keynote speaker, Shyra Barberstock, owner of Kebaonish Inc. will provide her insights and experiences on building a successful brand, and the impact of community on her journey so far.

ABOUT PEDAL WORKS CAFE + STUDIOS

Martha Williams is the founder, owner, and CEO of Pedal Works Café & Studios, which she opened in December 2023. With a background in non-profits and over three decades as a fitness professional, Martha has certified over 1,300 Spinning®️ instructors worldwide. Her coaching philosophy emphasizes empowerment, mindfulness, and gratitude, while her Studio II classes focus on balance and restorative practices like YIN and gentle yoga. Pedal Works is designed as an inclusive, welcoming space for marginalized communities, and Martha actively supports local artists and women-led small businesses.

Under Martha's leadership, Pedal Works Café & Studios has seen rapid growth, increasing by 70% in just six months and earning a 5-star Google review rating. She is dedicated to fostering a community-driven environment and serves on several boards, including BEESO and the Kingston Anti-Racism Working Group. Recognized for her leadership, Martha has been nominated for multiple awards and envisions expanding Pedal Works into a national Spinning®️ Training Centre while continuing to create a supportive, inclusive workplace.


ABOUT KEBAONISH INC.

Dr. Shyra Barberstock is the CEO of Okwaho Equal Source Inc. and Kebaonish Inc., specializing in Indigenous social innovation and impact. With over a decade of experience in Indigenous entrepreneurship and economic development, she has trained at the Rotman School of Management in Design Thinking. Shyra was the first Indigenous Innovator-in-Residence at the ISED Lab in Ottawa and has led initiatives like the Indigenous Climate Hub and the Queen’s University Kwe-Biz program for Indigenous women entrepreneurs. She holds a Ph.D. in Geography and Planning from Queen's University, focusing on Indigenous supply chains. Shyra is Anishinaabe and a member of Kebaowek First Nation in Quebec.

Shyra also recently launched the Indigenous Cilmate Hub Pocast which focuses on amplifying Indigenous voices on climate action.


ABOUT THE WE-CAN PROJECT:

The WE-CAN Project is led by Queen’s University with a mission to inspire and empower existing and aspiring women entrepreneurs by providing them with tools, resources, expert mentors, networks and community building to expand existing businesses and to launch new ventures. Since launching in 2020, the WE-CAN Project has supported more than 1,600 women entrepreneurs in launching, growing and scaling their business in the greater Kingston region.
