About this event

  • Event lasts 4 hours

Join WiRE UK on February 4th for a site visit to the Drax Power Station, the UK’s largest operating power station responsible for 11% of renewable energy generation in 2023.

The power plant was converted from coal to biomass between 2013-2018 and Drax now plans to convert two of the biomass units to Biomass with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) to remove 4 Mt of CO2 annually by 2030.

The site visit will begin with a lunch and learn from 12-2pm with several of Drax’s senior female leaders followed by a two-hour tour of the facility.  From the scale of the turbine hall and cooling towers to the control room, you’ll learn how electricity is generated from sustainable biomass and the critical role for BECCS will play in meeting the UK’s net zero ambition.

Attendees must arrange their own transportation to and from Selby train station. A shared taxi will be arranged to/from Selby station to the site. Please indicate in your registration whether you will be using the shared taxi or arriving with your own vehicle.
