About this event

We are excited to have you join us on Monday March 14th @ 4:30pm at Georgian Peaks in the Alpine Centre !!

ACA’s Women in Ski Racing program is grounded in creating a sense of belonging among women and girls in the ski community and empowering lifelong participating in sport. This session will profile successful women at the intersection of ski racing and business. The session will highlight barriers to participation, ACA’s commitment to gender equity and diversity, and challenges that still lay ahead. We invite all women, men, and all interested members of the ski racing community to participate so we may continue learning how to “Rise Together”.

This event will bring together a panel of speakers who are excited to share their experiences and perspectives. Panelists include:

  • Canada Ski Team athletes Cassidy Gray and Britt Richardson
  • BC Alpine Coach Montana Molyneux
  • Ontario Ski Team member Steph Currie
  • Ontario Para-Alpine Coach Shelley Johnston
  • Craigleith U16 Head Coach Mary-Beth Hemphill
  • Quebec Ski Team Coach Marie-Eve Boulianne.

Panelists will highlight the role parents, coaches, athletes, and administrators play in promoting the sustained participation of girls and women in ski racing.

The objective of this session is to promote sustained participation of girls and women in ski racing and to ensure they have a positive relationship with sport. The purpose of the proposed sessions is to empower girls and women to develop lifelong participation in sport, and to create a sense of belonging among women and girls in the ski community.

Since this event is being held at Senior Nationals it is important to engage our community. Current statistics suggest that girls are dropping out of sport between the ages of 13-18 for several reasons. Further, 62% of girls are not participating in any sport and in youth populations aged 9-12; 1 in 3 girls versus 1 in 10 boys drop out of sport. This workshop will be focused specifically at keeping girls and women in sport and presenting the challenges that many young athletes, especially face during this critical time in their growth and development. The objective is to engage parents, coaches, and athletes in a conversation about how to keep girls and women engaged with ski racing.
