About this event

This is a warm, quiet practice to instrumental music with body shapes held for 3-8 minutes. Students are guided to fine-tune their personal comfort & tension preference in each shape using various props. Wear layers to easily adjust your body warmth and temperature. Blankets are also provided.

Yin Yoga is suitable for all- beginners to experienced students alike. Every student will have 2 bolsters, 2 blocks, 2 blankets, a wood dowel and a tennis ball. You will be guided to stretch and rest in different shapes while you balance stretch & hold without pain.

The Myofacial Self-Release will occur either between or during the different body shapes. You will be invited to gently intensify muscle pressure sensations with the use of your wood dowel and tennis ball. You, the students, are in control of how much pressure or tension you apply (or not at all) to the different muscle points for your perfect amount of release.

All props provided but bring your own yoga mat if you have one. Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before we start. Parking is free around the neighborhood but do plan to arrive early in case you have to walk a block. Look for a Blue & White Sandwich Board beside a set of stairs going down to the lower level. Om Prem Yoga Studio doorway is down approximately 8 steps down, toward the back on the left.

Frequently asked questions

Is this for beginners or experienced students?

Both... beginners and longtime practitioners will be completely accommodated, guided, and assisted as needed and with consent.

How big of a class can I expect?

This is a smaller, privately owned, boutique studio. Class size may be as many as 10-15 students.

As a first time student or first time to this studio, how do I best prepare myself?

Plan to arrive 15-20 minutes early to find free parking, and find the studio which is down a flight of steps off the street level. Come early to meet the teacher, tour the studio, find the two bathrooms, shoe area, the coat area and choose a spot in the room and set up your props.

I have some physical limitations and I dont want to make things worse

The teacher, Gwynneth is well versed after 25 years of teaching to suggest adjustments or adaptations for each yoga pose. Slight to bigger adjustments by bolster/blanket/ block can help each student find the freedom and opening to personal comfort without pain.

Any tips to experience a better pratice?

Yes some classic yoga guidelines. Finish food 2-4 hours before practice. Drink plenty of water throughout the day but finish your water intake 20 minutes before practice begins. No water bottles in the studio. Layer up to self-adjust temperature for this pretty relaxing practice.

I'm experienced but is this a good space to bring my friend/ family member who has never done yoga?

All are welcome including beginners. You can be beside each other or you can have space between, allowing you each to have your own experience. They will be guided like a beginner student so you can relax and enjoy your own practice.

I don't like physical touch in a class... or by a teacher I don't know. Will I have options?

Consent is always asked. Each student will have a Consent Card to flip YES or NO at any time. From verbal self-adjustments to physical hands-on assists, it's up to you. Some like and some don't. Consent is always up to you and your: day/ pose/ sensitivities of body & mind. CONSENT & RESPECT always.

Preparing for class. What should I wear? Do I have to wear yoga tights?

Do wear any outfit you feel comfortable in as long as there is an elastic waist. For our "hips above heart" poses, best to have a shirt that is long enough to tuck in. No perfume. No Makeup as it gets onto the props- or bring a hand towel to lay on for face-on-bolster resting poses.

I have personal concerns. May I speak privately to the teacher (Gwynneth) about this?

Yes, please do. Arrive 20-30 minutes early for privacy. Or reach out via my personal email but must be in advance- at least 24 hours before the workshop for best response. Gsobejko@gmail.com
